You start with all the insane ideas your wild heart desires, and then you narrow down to the specifics.  Its not like you start with something  simple and then add on.   No, no, its everything, and then you dial back to the basics.  But for a girl like me, with so many curiosities, that is truly the hardest part.

I strive for the minimalist end product, but my getting there is to start at the extreme opposite.  I have to consider everything to ensure that I have covered every possible solution.  Maybe someday I will be a bale to trust the tongue in the my gut with a greater sense of confidence, but for now, I will experiment with everything first.
